MINDFULNESS BASED

STRESS REDUCTION

“I have a measure of control, humor, choice and joy back in my life. My situation has not changed, but I have.”

-MBSR Participant

The Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program is an 8 week experiential program in learning how to relate to life’s challenges with less reactivity and more wisdom and clarity.

In this evidence-based, highly experiential course, participants will practice and didactically explore how to more positively relate to all aspects of life (including stress, pain, anxiety, and illness) to bring about greater balance, clarity, and life satisfaction. Through guided meditation and gentle movement instruction as well as group discussion and inquiry exercises designed to enhance awareness, participants will come to understand mindfulness as a way of tapping into inner resources and as a way of responding to life’s challenges rather than reacting.

This highly participatory, practical course includes:

  • Gentle stretching and mindful yoga

  • Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices

  • Inquiry exercises to enhance awareness in everyday life

  • Individually tailored instruction

  • Group dialogue

  • Daily home assignments

  • Guided audio files for home practice and a workbook

The course is challenging and life-affirming. The instructors are accomplished and skilled at creating a safe, supportive, and deeply engaging learning environment that allows participants to seek, explore, and inquire.

In this program, you will learn:

  • Key aspects of mindfulness as it relates to stress reduction, coping with pain and illness and enhancing well-being.

  • Practical suggestions for how to integrate mindfulness into everyday life and break reactive patterns.

  • Differentiate MBSR from relaxation and other distraction techniques that may seem similar but are fundamentally and theoretically quite different in contending with difficulty and enhancing quality of life

  • Practice and apply mindfulness techniques in both personal and professional settings as a means of contending more effectively with the demands of both settings

  • Integrate mindfulness into social interaction with colleagues, supervisors, family and friends to facilitate more effective and mindful communication.
